Pirate Sluggers Dominate Salem 11-1, Close MSC Play 7-2

The Charlestown Pirate Baseball team traveled to Salem Monday evening for the final Mid-Southern Conference match-up of the season.  The Pirates started early, putting five runs up on the board before the Lions scored one in the fifth.  The Pirates, led by Tanner Wesp, Daniel Sprinkle, and Colin Martin's doubles, scored six more runs in the 6th and 7th innings to post their 7th MSC victory of the season.  Sophomore Drew Reich got the win and improved his season to 7-0 from the mound.  Concluding the game, Pirate Head Coach Ricky Romans made the following statements.  "A real good team effort tonight.  We got solid pitching, good hitting and made the routine plays defensively tonight, which is always a good recipe for success.  Hopefully we are building some good momentum at the right time because our sectional will be very tough and we will have to play our best ball to compete."  The Pirates (18-6 and 7-2 MSC) clinch at least a second place conference race finish with an outside chance of a share of the title with a loss by Corydon with two yet to play.  The Pirates will also learn their Sectional draw Tuesday morning, as it will be posted by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting as soon as it is released by the IHSAA.
