06/05/10: 

Pirate Track Announces Academic All-State Honors

The Pirate Track & Field Team is pleased to announce that Senior Morgan Burkhart was recently named to the Indiana Association of Track and Cross County Coaches (IATCC) Academic All-State Team.  Additionally, Senior Clay Daniel and Junior Kyle Jenkins were also named to the IATCC Academic All-State Honorable Mention list.  Congratulations Pirates for success on the field as well as in the classroom!

05/26/10: 

Lady Pirate Stephens Represents at Regionals

Lady Pirate Track and Field stand-out Liz Stephens participated in the Bloomington North Girl’s Track and Field Regional Tuesday night, picking up 4th and 5th place finishes.  Liz finished 5th in the long jump with a jump of 16’, just two inches shy of advancing to the state meet.  She finished fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.94, bettering her already held school record, and barely missing qualifying for the state championship meet by less than a second.  Everyone in Pirate Nation should be extremely proud of Liz for her accomplishments this season and while representing CHS with pride in the state tournament. 

05/21/10: 

Pirate Track & Field Produce Sectional Champs in Three Events!

The Pirate Track and Field team finished 4th out of 12 teams Thursday night at the Jeffersonville Sectional.  Some of the non-scoring highlights of the night included Lucas Poteet and Cesar Hernandez finishing first in their flights and Morgan Burkhart making it to the finals of the long jump.  Scoring points for the team were Michael Baines in four events, Josh King and Aaron Daniel in three events, Clay Daniel and Daniel Taylor in two events, Ryan Wilkerson, Kyle Jenkins, Kie Sutherland, and Morgan Burkhart in one event.  Advancing to next week’s regional in Bloomington are Clay Daniel in the shot put, Aaron Daniel in the high jump, Michael Baines in long jump, Josh King in the 110 hurdles, the 400 meter relay team consisting of Baines, Morgan Burkhart, Daniel Taylor, and Ryan Wilkerson.  Sectional champions and also advancing to the regional were Michael Baines in the 100 meter dash, Josh King in the 400 meter, and the 1600 meter relay team consisting of Kyle Jenkins, Josh King, Michael Baines, and Daniel Taylor.  Great job guys!!  The coaching staff, managers, and the girl’s team are all proud of you.  So more information about Pirate Track and Field, go to www.CharlestownPiratePride.com/Track.htm.

05/15/10: 

Lady Pirate Track Finish Well at Sectionals

The Lady Pirate Girls Track and Field team finished 9th in last night sectional out of 13 teams.  Making it to the finals of their events were Sophie Higazy in the 100 meter hurdles and Shelby Keeling in the 100 meter dash.  The 400 meter relay team consisting of Amy Combs, Shelby Keeling, Liz Stephens, and Kali Glory finished 5th, running in 53.8 which was their best time of the year.  The 1600 meter relay team consisting of Combs, Stephens, Glory, and Jayla Rose also finished 5th and also had their best time of the season with a 4:34.  Liz Stephens has advanced to next week’s regional at Bloomington in the long jump by finishing 4th and the 300  hurdles by finishing 2nd.  Her time of 49.5 in the 300 hurdles also broke her previously held school record.  Good job ladies- the coaches and boy’s team are proud of you.

04/22/10: 

Pirates 1st & Lady Pirates 3rd at Pirate Relays!

For the first time since 2006, the Charlestown Pirate Boys Track and Field team are champions of the historic and annual Pirate Relays, hosted by Charlestown High School.  The Pirates were able to score multiple points in all events against North Harrison, Scottsburg, Crawford County, and Austin.  "It was truly a team victory!", commented Head Coach Adam Tolliver.  Team members are Freshmen Aaron Daniel, Kenton Sink, Ryan Wilkerson, and Cesar Hernandez.  Sophomore members are Ryan Miles, Zach Jenkins, and David Enteman.  Junior members are Josiah Garza, Kie Sutherland, Kyle Jenkins, Josh King, Brandon Lyons, and Daniel Taylor.  The Senior members are Clay Daniel, Michael Baines, Lucas Poteet, and Morgan Burkhart.  Thanks to Lindsay Harmon, Ashley Hoff, and Jordon Wheeler for their help during the meet, as well as all the workers and fans that came out and supported the team on their way to the trophy.

The Lady Pirates Girl’s Track and Field team also had an impressive Wednesday evening at Pirate Relays, scoring 26 points and finishing 3rd as a team.  The team scored points in all facets of the meet- field events, distance, and sprints.  Lady Pirate Track and Field members are Lindsey Blackwell, Reesie Garza, Adeline Gomez, Kali Glory, Taylor Thrasher, Sophia Higazy, Amy Combs, Liz Stephens, and Shelby Keeling.

05/31/09:

Baxtron Qualifies for State Finals and Breaks School Record in 200m

The Pirate boys track regional team consisting of Aaron May, Justin Baxtron, Josh King, Daniel Taylor, and Clay Daniel finished 11th out of 30 teams last Thursday night at Bloomington North HS.  Points were scored by Josh King in the 110 meter hurdles by finishing 7th and Justin Baxtron in the 100 and 200 meter dashes by finishing 2nd.  Justin qualified for the state finals which will be held on the campus of Indiana University, Friday June 5th.  Justin also took sole possession of the school record for the 200 meter dash by running 22.28.  Great job team and best of luck to Justin in the State Finals!!
